In response to Secretary Duncan's letter to states regarding restraints and seclusion in schools, KDE has shared initial guidance to districts. This page contains downloadable documents regarding the use of seclusion and physical restraints. The focus of the documents are on best practice and systems of prevention to minimize the need to use seclusion and physical restraints.
KDE has established a stakeholder group, comprised of multiple agencies, to review existing information and to make recommendations on guidance for district implementation. Pending current federal legislation, H.R. 4247, finalization of guidance to districts is anticipated for Fall 2010. However, until this work is completed, please refer to the information below. For additional questions, please contact Toyah Robey at (502) 564-4970.
